Dear Elizabeth Yates, 5-4-09

we have read your book amos fortune and I admit it was a very good book. we especially loved the chapter when Amos married again it is very good to know that he didn’t die alone. Though really what we want to know is how did you get all of that information? we mean we were looking for some extra stuff about Amos but really it is quite hard.
we were really surprised at first that Amos’s wife rose buried the stuff that they needed to give to that widowers family. Then Amos climbed the mountain to see what would be the right thing to do. As I have said before this book is awesome.

Sincerely,
NAPHTALI ,JAHVON ,AND CHRISTOPHER.

 –   Years in Paris
In Elizabeth Yates' papers at Smith College is a scrapbook belonging to Effie Davis (Douglas) Putnam. The scrapbook has autographs of Rodin, Twain and others. Were Elizabeth and Effie friends? Did Elizabeth live in Paris at one time? Effie died in 1946. Any info helpful.

 –   Effie Douglass Putnam and Elizabeth Yates
From Smith College site: "Effie Douglass Putnam was the sister of Loretto Putnam, the second wife of Elizabeth Yates' grandfather. [so she was Elizabeth's great-step-aunt] Effie was born in Flint, Michigan and went as a young girl to Paris to study the harp and remained there until she died in 1943."

Do you know if Elizabeth Yates is still living, and if she is related to the poet Yates? What a great writer, can't believe I just discovered her!

RE: if E. Yates is still living, Our public library usually gives date of death if the author has passed, and it didn't give a date for her so, I was hoping that she might still be alive. It appears that someone just before me spoke of her death...Are we sure she has passed?

 –   dear elizabeth yates
i read the first four chapters. I liked them accept the part where amos's father was shot. then amos was taken away from his siter. I felt sad for amos when he was old and was still looking for a eight year old girl who had aged and was not eight anymore. I love this book and i hope things get better for him.

Sincerely,

your reader
